What to do with a New Year

Well the New Year is here. It is 2010. It came on schedule with no stops and starts or jerks along the way. And here it is January 7th which seems like it was yesterday that we had a New Year’s celebration but yesterday, Jan 6th seemed like many days that occurred in my life last year and the year before. Since retirement seems I’ve done more work than I did when I was working. The burning question that I keep asking myself is, “What’s different about a New Year?” How come we call it a New Year when nothing ever changes. Seems like it is not so new but old. But on to the more serious questions to be answered.

Now that we’ve got it what do we do with it? Do we go to work everyday as we did last year or do we just hang out hoping that things will get better? Do we plan for our future or do we wait for others to plan for us? Do we wait on another year to roll around or count each day as an opportunity to thank God and love others?

I’ve been wanting to get answers to these question most of my life, so help me out. But another thought could be that might get to the heart of my concern, “What is life all about?” Yes I think that is it. Therein lies the answer to each of our New Years if we can put a handle on this thing called life. Otherwise it is being born, creating problems on this earth for others as we age, and then dying. Sounds kinda scary and sad.

Have a great year answering that question. Oh, I think I have might have some answers to all those questions, but !

Back from Vacation

It has been a good summer. Blueberry season is over. Few Peaches on the trees. The heat slowed down ripening and hindered some picking. Much sweat from the heat but our God is Great and we just praise Him for His Love, Mercy and Grace and even the 100 degree heat. We thank Him for opportunities to meet new folks at the market and chat. Also when given the opportunity to talk about the Absolute Sovereignty of God in life. I have fund memories from a number of believers. A very precious older  lady came by our space at the Farmers Market with her pastor son. He is a pastor in Detroit, Mich and was in Jackson to preach a revival. What a joy in talking to them. I will not forget her and I thank God for her witness and attitude about her life. One young couple stopped by and I learned that he is a Ph.D. student at the University of London in theology. We shared and rejoiced together about our wonderful Almighty God.  God is so good. Please accept His goodness.

Soli Deo Gloria

Now for more thoughts if God wills with the hopes that you will be encouraged, enlightened, and if not a believer may God the Holy Spirit move in your heart and make you a new person.

In Him alone is life,

Short Vacation

A Short Vacation

Seems this is the time for a short vacation. My mind is now cluttered with thoughts of summer things to be involved with such as blueberries, blackberries, peaches, (picking them), going to market and visiting with customers at home as well. So I need a short vacation that I may be outside in 95 to 100 degree weather, kill grass and weeds, mow fields, meet and greet customers. Sounds like fun huh? It really is fun with great toil and perspiration. In 2002, I committed all this farm to our Great and Glorious God. It is His and He has given the management to me. My wife and I do not own this piece of property. Our name is on the deed but God owns it. Our responsibility is to manage it for His Glory not ours. So I will shift my puny efforts to bringing Honor and Glory to the owner of Hope Fruit and Berry Farm. If time permits I will try to write a few lines of encouragement and hope. Until then I leave you with this question.

What is the purpose of the story of Lazarus in John 11? I would welcome any thoughts by email. You will find the email address on the home page.

May God’s Glory shine through your life during these summer months.

Soli Deo Gloria

In Him,
